What Shift Admin is

Shift Admin is automated provider scheduling software built for shift based specialties. QGenda acquired it in January 2021, describing it in the announcement as “an industry-recognized leader for shift-based specialties including emergency medicine, urgent care, and hospital medicine”. Three weeks later, in February 2021, QGenda Shift Admin Scheduling took the Best in KLAS award in the Scheduling: Physician category, with a score of 93.2. That history matters, and we would rather state it plainly than skirt it. QGenda Shift Admin Scheduling won the category three consecutive years, in 2021, 2022 and 2023, scoring 93.2, 92.5 and 93.1. It is also the reason QGenda could claim the category in 2022 and 2023 at all: QGenda’s own flagship, listed separately by KLAS as QGenda Advanced Scheduling, placed third in both years, at 91.6 and 88.6, behind the company’s own acquisition. Shift Admin earned its position in emergency medicine, and it was not long ago: in 2023, two years after the acquisition, it was still the highest rated physician scheduling product KLAS measured. Groups that chose it made a sound decision with the information available, and many of them still like the product. The reviews that exist are strong: 4.9 out of 5 on G2 and 5.0 out of 5 on Capterra, from 19 and 4 reviews respectively. The complication is the date on those reviews. The most recent public review of Shift Admin on G2 is from October 2019. On Capterra it is from February 2020. Both predate the QGenda acquisition. Since that acquisition, Shift Admin sits inside a company that has been consolidating quickly. QGenda completed the acquisition of New Innovations in July 2025, and Hearst announced its agreement to acquire QGenda in August 2024. Where Shift Admin stands today

Has QGenda announced that Shift Admin is being discontinued? No. There is no end of life notice, no sunset announcement and no migration deadline anywhere in QGenda’s newsroom or on either website. Anyone telling you otherwise, including a competing vendor, is speculating. We are not going to do that. Here is what is publicly observable instead, all of it verifiable in a browser as of September 2026. There is no marketing site. The root of shiftadmin.com is a login screen, there is no product page in the navigation, no features page and no pricing page, and the footer reads ”© 2026 Shift Administrators LLC”. The only product description anywhere on the site sits on an unlinked contact page, which names Schedule Management and Generation, Secure Document Management and Workforce Communication Tools alongside a testimonial, and nothing on the site points to it. On QGenda’s side, Shift Admin does not appear in the product lineup, the solutions navigation or the boilerplate at the foot of QGenda’s press releases, and QGenda’s emergency medicine page promotes QGenda Workforce Scheduling rather than Shift Admin, in the specialty Shift Admin was built to serve. The Shift Admin page on qgenda.com is a support contact block. Public review activity stopped around the acquisition. Here is the evidence pointing the other way, which belongs in the same paragraph rather than buried at the bottom. The Android app is actively maintained, with updates during 2026, published by QGenda. The iOS app was last updated on February 17, 2024, version 1.24, which is two and a half years ago. QGenda staffs a Shift Admin support email and phone line, and lists a sales contact alongside it. And after the acquisition QGenda re platformed the Shift Admin application onto AWS, rebuilding its scheduled jobs and putting it behind modern CI/CD pipelines, a project documented publicly by QGenda’s cloud partner. That is real engineering investment, and it is not what a company does to a product it plans to switch off. The accurate summary is that Shift Admin is maintained and no longer marketed as a standalone product. Software in that state usually keeps working for a long time. What it typically stops doing is changing, because new capability lands in the product a company is selling rather than the one it is supporting. Whether that matters to you depends on whether your scheduling problem is finished. If your rules are stable, your group is not growing and the schedule is the only thing you need from the tool, maintained may be exactly enough. If any of those three is not true, you are relying on a roadmap that no one has committed to, and the reasonable thing to do is ask QGenda for one in writing.

What YouShift is

YouShift is a healthcare workforce operations platform that starts from the schedule. Coverage requirements, compliance rules and clinician preferences go in, and the engine returns complete schedule options that satisfy those rules, which the scheduler chooses between rather than assembles by hand. Everything downstream runs on the same engine and the same data. Swaps and open shift offers are validated by the rules that built the schedule, so a trade that would break coverage or a duty hour rule cannot be made. Clock in and clock out reconcile against the shift that was scheduled. License and credential expiry dates are read against future assignments, so a gap surfaces months ahead rather than on the day. Staffing cost decomposes by site, team and period out of the same records. Optimization is specialty specific, because an emergency department, an urgent care and a hospitalist service do not share coverage logic, shift structures or fairness constraints.

What you buy, and how it is priced

Shift Admin publishes no pricing on its own website. Third party directories still list figures for it, but those listings carry review data from 2019 and 2020, they disagree with each other, and they should not be treated as current commercial terms. YouShift charges for clinicians actually being scheduled. That matters most to emergency medicine groups with a long tail of per diem and locum coverage, because a headcount based contract charges for everyone on the roster rather than everyone on the schedule. You get a real number for your group on the first call.

Where Shift Admin is still the right answer

If Shift Admin is working, you are not obliged to move, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. Your rules are stable, your group is not growing or adding sites, and the schedule is genuinely the only thing you need from the tool. Maintained software that does one job well can serve for years, and a migration you did not need is a cost with no return. Your schedulers know it deeply. Years of accumulated configuration and habit are worth real money, and the correct trigger for a change is a problem the current tool cannot solve, not a vendor’s comparison page. Shift Admin publishes no pricing on its own website. If you are a current customer, the number you should be asking for is not this year’s renewal. Two questions matter: what happens to your history, and what happens to your rules. The data is the easy half. A Shift Admin rule set that has been tuned for years encodes decisions nobody ever wrote down, which is exactly why it feels risky to leave.
